As installers, we are seeing a trend of more homeowners taking the time to learn about renewables. With solar panels and battery storage becoming an investment instead of just a nice thing to do for the planet, it’s more important than ever for people to research what systems they need and how they can optimise their home.
Darlington homeowner Lee had thought about going green for a while and finally got in touch with DMH to make his vision a reality. In today’s blog, we’ll talk about Lee’s thought process and the work we carried out for him to slash his energy spend.
What the client wanted
The client had a very clear goal: he wanted to reduce his home’s reliance on the grid to move towards eliminating his energy bills altogether. Looking at his home and his lifestyle, there were many questions that needed to be addressed and answered. Lee got in touch with DMH Electrical and Renewables to discuss his needs and the best solutions for his home.
We work with our clients to build systems that work for any budget and any demands. By doing this, we can also plan for growth and scalability, allowing the home to increase the number of panels or additional batteries where needed. He had an EV vehicle to charge as well as additional space on the roof of a garden room at the bottom of his garden.
The system that we delivered
After planning and assessing the information that was gathered, the DMH team went away and came back with a proposal of work. This included the installation of 30 Aiko solar panels working alongside battery storage in the garage and EV charging, with 14 kW in total generation. The 3x 9.04 kWh Sigenergy batteries and 12 kW Sigenergy inverter complete this system to include the entire home and the client’s lifestyle. This created a system that could be expanded as the property’s energy needs grew.
It’s important for clients to not just look at the short-term impact of investing in renewables, but to also look ahead at futureproofing their homes. By making sure that these systems have room to grow, this home can continue to generate more of its own energy whilst keeping the home’s self-consumption at a maximum.
The client’s feedback
Lee said “I’m more than delighted about the system, to be truthful with you. The installation has been great and very straightforward. It took the lads essentially 2 days to do. I may be a little bit too excited about the system at the moment because it is around the solstice, so we’ve got a maximum amount of sun we could get. The system’s been absolutely incredible so far.”
Room for future modifications
Lee doesn’t just want to stop at solar PV, batteries and an EV charger though. He is looking to scale his renewables system even further with the addition of a heat pump.
For DMH, this would include looking at changing radiators and assessing the best place to have it installed. Fortunately, the current solar and battery system was scaled accordingly to fit the future install of the heat pump – helping Lee meet his target of near 0 energy bills, or close to it.
“I wanted someone local. Dan’s been brilliant from day 1. Very, very patient – even to the point where I decided I wanted Solaskirts on my solar panels and that was done really last minute, and he got sorted for me.”
“(DMH) are just a fantastic company all around. I couldn’t recommend them enough to be honest with you – and I will be. Hopefully we will see (them) soon to do the heat pump and maybe some more solar on this garden roof.”
